metabolism

So the body, mine specifically, is an amazing thing. I ate a fairly decent supper (can of tuna, homemade bun, yogurt, banana with peanut butter). Then went to my step class. Afterwards I made a protein shake with berries (estimating 300 calories). I was full after that and went to bed. I was sort of upset that I ate such a big supper knowing I'd eat that snack when I got home. I thought for sure that would make me not hungry for breakfast but I'd eat anyway. However I work up STARVING! Hardly makes sense huh? Or does it....

Now maybe somebody knows better, if so please let me know. But until you do I'll assume I'm right based on things I've read etc. When you get hungry (in the tummy, not in the eyes or nose or brain) your body is saying that it wants food because you have metabolized the last bit that you ate and in order to keep functioning at peak performance it needs more fuel. That's why sometimes when you wake up you're not hungry at all, because your body has been sleeping and your metabolism is slow, so you don't need any fuel to keep it like that. And that's why I was so hungry this morning even after eating lots of food, because my metabolism was way up there coming off class. Not to mention eating food increases your metabolism.

That's why, even if you aren't hungry first thing in the morning it's important to eat breakfast because it will increase your metabolism from the hybernation speed it's just been on. That's also why it's a good idea to eat every 2 to 3 hours, just like putting more fuel on a fire. Gotta keep it revved up there. Before you know it, your tummy will start telling you you're actually hungry every 2 to 3 hours.

That's why those of you who don't snack between meals (like I used to not do) are dumb.

any questions? Or am I wrong? where's your proof?

Being hungry first thing in the morning is a GOOD thing -- it's the sign of a healthy metabolism.

Eating breakfast in the morning, even if you're not really hungry, actually helps your metabolism speed up (or so Jillian said on Biggest Loser the other night).

when i was reading this, all I could think was "i love you" sounds really creepy huh? hahahha. But seriously what you said is awesome. Perhaps why I am always starving when I wake up. Perhaps my metabolism isn't as slow as I thought it was. Hahha.

But yea, snacking is great, when you are hungry.

I hate when i confuse dehydration for hunger though. But that is why I keep chugging it down so I don't confuse it as often as not. :-)

I think you are completely right!

If I eat something big before bed I am RAVENOUS when I wake up...AND even if I am not hungry, I ALWAYS eat breakfast!!! (MY husband made me in the beginning)

Even now I have set snacks during the day (10 am and 3pm) and I feel it if I miss it...

i always snack between meals for this reason - i love being hungry because i know my body is working but hate feeling hungry... hence the snacks!

I think you're absolutely right about why you were hungry when you woke up. I also heard from a nutrition guru that he in addition to his 3 square meals, he has 3 "mini meals" of protein shakes, one of which is right before he goes to bed and it keeps his metabolism firing all night!

Work out, Eat more - more often. Love it. I think one of the reasons my weight loss stalled in the fall was I started cutting out my snacks - yeah, dumb. My nightime snack is usually just protein powder in water, but I love adding soy drink and berries on Saturday mornings and drink half before ST and half after. Soooo good. What kind of powder do you use. Right now Superstore is getting rid of some 50% off because they're not on the new 'shelving' plans, and the NI is actually pretty good at 111 cals, <1g fat and 27g protein per scoop. I also ordered some on-line from bodybuilding.com. The freight to Canada sucks, but at $15.99 USD per tub it's a kick-ass deal. I ordered 6 tubs of lean dessert - average less than $22 per tub - I think they're over $40 at GNC.
