How do you drink it?

So I know you all drink gallons of water every day, the same as I do. (no, that wasn't sarcasm, I do drink gallons daily). And I used to drink water from the water cooler (just for temperature, I actually prefer tap water) from my Nalgene water bottle refilled several times throughout the day. Ok great. But then I heard things, like about plastic water bottles. And I didn't like it.

For my birthday I got an aluminum water bottle (or something like that, it's metal anyway). So far I like it, though it conducts temperature so that my hand freezes when there's cold water in it. Plus I can't see through it when filling to know when to stop. But it will just take some getting used to. Oh and also, the lid is way less convenient to remove.

But I'd sooner not have any endocrine disruptors (basically bad things that can cause cancer, obesity, birth defects, diabetes etc) if I can help it. But I was wondering, am I going overboard? As my hubby says, everything will give you cancer. What do you guys think? What do you use?

edit - basically if it's plastic, even reusable, it can leach endocrine disruptors. The pop bottle kind (that you're not supposed to refill) are the very worst, but even the Nalgene reusable kind are bad (the little number on the bottom in the recycle thing means something, mine's a 7 and it's bad. 1s are very bad. Apparently 2 HDPE, 4 LDPE or 5 PP aren't so bad.

I'm really bad - I reuse a plastic water bottle! :S
I do buy a new one every couple of weeks, but I know it's bad... and I think I have to bite the bullet and buy one of those fancy bottles (although I foresee the same issues as you... also I'm really picky about the opening of the bottle, it has to be small, otherwise I can't drink out of it - weird, I know).

I use a reusable plastic water bottle. Not like the dasani kind or whatever, but the kind you can put in a dishwasher, etc. I used to use the dasani kind, but the cleaners kept throwing them away. BOO. So now I have a permanent one. It is 64 oz, and it is perfect for me, because I fill it up and drink it throughout the day. I prefer my water lukewarm so it is perfect.

I switched to a metal bottle made by Sigg, small opening with a twist off cap. It typically stays on my desk so the cap isn't an issue. I used to use Nalgene and then I heard the plastic (7) was being tested. It might be a bit overboard to switch to metal but I actually prefer the taste of the water. It tastes cleaner somehow.

ditto to Cara. I love the 64 oz. I just fill it up and drink it throughout the day.

I'm gonna die of cancer then.

I refill a '1' plastic bottle all day.. and honestly I betcha I drink about 5L of water while at work alone.

During the evening, I chug out of a nalgene.

I like tap water, and I like it at room temp!

I heard about this as well. Even baby bottles too!

I re-fill a regular pop bottle and I should go back to using something better. How are we ever going to keep up with all of these "bewares" in our lives.

Hm, I have heard all that stuff too but I guess I just think EVERYTHING is bad for you these days might as well be getting some good in me (water) while doing something bad (drinking out of a nalgene)!!!

I tried a metal one before and I did really like the taste better but my hands were ALWAYS cold!

Trying to keep bottles in one spot without having them tossed away or absconded is an issue. I now drink from the office cooler from a glass jam jar. Funny how no one has stolen that off my desk or out of the lunch room.

I have a reusable plastic bottle at work here that I take home and wash once a week. At home, I buy 32 ounce bottles of water (evian, fiji) and reuse the bottle for a week, then toss it. I know they say it's unhealthy, but I'm with your hubby, seems everything causes cancer these days, so if I don't get it from the bottle I'm using, I'll get it from my cell phone.

Regarding Protein Powder, I do use it, mainly to flavor my oatmeal in the morning, love it that way. I use Isopure Zero Carb. Kinda expensive, but I love it. I buy it online, and it is much cheaper.

I don't drink nearly enough water. I drink 1, maybe 2, large coffee mugs filled with water every day at work, and then 1 or 2 glasses once I get home. Not the 8 that I'm supposed to get....

I'm with you totally on this Randi - I also have one of those Aluminum bottles. The only thing I don't like is how it conducts but hey I can deal b/c it is not plastic.

I'm not exactly unbiased, because my company works with them, but CamelBak has a new BPA-free water bottle on the market. One less thing to worry about.
